Micarta 3/8" & 1/4" - Items tagged as "Handle materials"
Micarta, in general, is very durable and generates a unique, stylish look. Micarta is the perfect material used for creating durable knife handles. It provides excellent grip and comfort for the user. One notable difference between Micarta compared to other materials is it is easier cut and machine. Micarta is produced from Linen, Canvas, and Burlap. Regardless of which Micarta material you prefer, all will yield very similar results.
Linen Micarta
Linen Micarta is produced from blending linen substrates with phenolic resins to form a durable yet beautiful product. Compared to canvas, linen produces a finer finish compared to the gradient finish produced by canvas.
Canvas Micarta
Canvas Micarta’s substrate fibers are significantly larger when compared to linen Micarta products. Canvas laminated sheets consist of thermosetting resins blended with canvas cloth.
Burlap Micarta
Burlap Micarta’s substrate fibers are larger than canvas with the fabric providing a slightly courser appearance. When Burlap is combined with phenolic resin it forms a nearly indestructible piece of art.
The combined materials are then pressed together under high heat and pressure. The end result is a thick, durable material that can be fabricated into various shapes and sizes, commonly seen in knife handles. This easy-to-fabricate material can be cut, drilled, taped, and machined into virtually any shape you deem necessary.
